Board members are elected to act on behalf of the school’s community. By working together with the Principal, they responsible for the governance, strategic direction, and legal compliance of Marco School. The Ministry of Education describes the Board as responsible for governance, while the Principal is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school. Governance is about setting the direction, establishing the expectations and checking that the school is achieving what it should. Management is about making it happen. 

The easiest way to understand the difference is imagine the school is a bus:

The Board decides:

🚌 Where are we going?
🎯 What do we want to achieve?
📋 What rules and systems do we need?
💰 What resources do we have?
📊 Are we getting there?

The Principal decides:

👩‍🏫 How do we get there?
👥 Who needs to do what?
📅 What happens each day?
🛠️ How do we solve the operational problems?

The Board shouldn't be driving the bus every day. The Principal is responsible for that.
